Code of Conduct

This page is public. Last updated October 29, 2024.

1. Introduction

ClimateAction.tech values diversity of thought and knowledge sharing. We strive to be inclusive to all community members and collaborators, with the most varied and diverse backgrounds possible. Communities mirror the societies in which they exist and positive action is essential to counteract the many forms of inequality and abuses of power that exist in society. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all.

This code of conduct outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community, as well as the consequences for Unacceptable Behavior.

All who participate in ClimateAction.tech have agreed to this Code of Conduct and Community Principles during the signup application.

We invite all everyone to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone.

2. Expected Behavior

We’re here to learn together and be more effective advocates for climate solutions & mitigations in the tech industry. The following behaviors are expected and requested of all community members:

  1. 🌱 Ask questions and share your experiences. Engage with dialog in the community, share what you know, cultivate conversations. Participate in an authentic and active way. In doing so, you contribute to the health and longevity of this community. Exercise consideration and respect in speech and action.

  2. 💚 We are people behind our avatars. Give other people grace to explore new concepts. Attempt collaboration before conflict.

  3. 🔒 Respect people’s privacy. Climate action can come with risks. Don’t publicly share personal information without permission. Please observe the Chatham House Rule: “Participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.”

  4. 🚸 Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert a community moderator if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem inconsequential. (See “Reporting Guidelines” below)

  5. 🗣️ Help prevent information overload. Be conscientious of where on the Slack you are holding a discussion. Each channel has a topic description, please post accordingly. Create a thread if you have a multi-paragraph post. If you’re not sure where to post, ask in #6-cat-community-feedback or check out Navigating Slack and the Slack channel finder.
