ClimateAction.tech, CIC

ClimateAction.tech is officially incorporated as ClimateAction.tech Community Interest Company (CIC) in the UK.

A community interest company is a legal form of organisation which exists solely to benefit the community (i.e fellow CATS rather than private shareholders), and as CAT has grown to more than 9000 members, the need to have some formal governance has grown too.

What CAT CIC will be used for

The intention here is to now use this entity to make it easier to fund various community focussed projects, like more events, a new mini-grant programme and more, as previously when speaking to other organisations or funding bodies, it wasn't obvious who organisations were officially contracting with.

So if for example, the National Lottery Fund in the UK wanted to allocate some funds to CAT to support activities with its special communities fund, it wasn't really able to, because there was no entity to officially enter an agreement or donate to. Now we are a Community Interest Company these kinds of transactions and interactions with other organizations are possible and it’s easier to attract funds and use it to support our activities.

Members can still donate to our CAT Open Collective or get their donations matched by their employer through the CAT Benevity Cause.
